PRESS RELEASE – Car Sharing Innovation Camp to Jump-Start City Programmes

17 July 2019 – Paris, France – With car sharing becoming an ever-important aspect of city sustainability plans, the innovation experts at LGI are hosting a camp geared towards policymakers, entrepreneurs and organisations with an interest in new forms of mobility. Car Sharing Campout: Let’s Roll! will be held in Paris at the Anticafé Olympiades, 14-15 October 2019.

So as to forge synergies and enable more high-profile participants to attend, the innovation camp is sandwiched between two other mobility conferences in Europe: it follows the Shared Mobility Rocks conference in Brussels (8 October) and is part of the lead-up to the 2019 Autonomy & Urban Mobility Summit in Paris (16-17 October).

The two-day innovation camp aims to help cities tackle challenges facing their car sharing programmes. Best practice examples and lessons learned from cities across Europe will be presented on day one, with a cocktail and live music wrapping up the day’s events. Day two will feature speakers from major automotive industry players, as well as several startups in the mobility ecosystem.

“GM’s vision is Zero-Zero-Zero: Zero crashes, Zero emissions and Zero congestion. Car sharing is one of the levers to achieve our vision, from station based, to gig to autonomous ride sharing”

“GM’s vision is Zero-Zero-Zero: Zero crashes, Zero emissions and Zero congestion. Car sharing is one of the levers to achieve our vision, from station based, to gig to autonomous ride sharing,” said the company’s Innovation Manager, Massimiliano Melis. Melis says he is looking forward to the innovation camp, as it “will be a great opportunity for networking, sharing ideas and thoughts about shared mobility.”

Workshops will be held throughout the camp, allowing participants to more fully understand practical issues such as how car sharing business models work, how car sharing can be expanded to rural areas, and how transport has particular impacts on women. The innovation camp will wrap up with a special session dedicated to prototyping initiatives that could unlock current mobility challenges in the cities of Budapest, Sofia, Cluj-Napoca and Oradea.

Car Sharing Campout: Let’s Roll! is organised as part of the STARS project, for which LGI is a partner. The STARS project has received funding from the Horizon 2020 programme under grant agreement n°769513.

Based in Paris, LGI aims to foster sustainable transitions, guiding organisations through the entire innovation process. LGI’s key sectors include the environment, energy, and smart & sustainable territories, for which transport and mobility is a subcomponent. LGI has developed an expertise not only in transport policies and regulations, but also mobility market behaviours and new business models.
